But it was the tragic events of April 16, 1959, that forever changed this prison's energy. During a desperate 36-hour riot led by inmates Jerry Myles and Lee Smart, 23 hostages were taken before the uprising reached its chilling conclusion in the Death Tower with a murder-suicide that left an indelible psychic imprint.
